Research:  

My research interests include soil-borne diseases of small grains and floriculture plants.  I am currently involved in an integrated approach to Wheat Health Management with a cooperative effort among farmer-producers and specialists in agronomy, soil fertility, entomology and weed science.  

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

Management of soil-borne and foot rot pathogens on small grain cereals, including, Cochliobolus, Fusarium, Gaeumannomyces and Tapesia spp.  Influence of tillage management on diseases of small grains.

Administrative

Director, Montana Foundation Seed Stocks Program for the development and distribution of MAES small grain and legume varieties.

Administrator of the MSU-NRCS Foundation Seed Funds for the distribution of woody, forbs and grass germplasm from the USDA-NRCS Plant Materials Center, Bridger MT.  Coordinate the funding of graduate student projects that are of interest to the NRCS and MSU.

Mint rootstock certification specialist for disease-free rootstock in greenhouse grown mint.

Insect pathology of the wheat stem sawfly by Fusarium crown rot species in small grains.

Evaluation of seed treatments on spring canola for control of Rhizoctonia and Fusarium root rots.

The influence of reduced or minimum tillage on soil-borne diseases of wheat in sustainable cropping systems.

Epidemiology of the wheat stem sawfly and Fusarium crown rot in dryland wheat.
